Badi H. Baltagi is Distinguished Professor of Economics and Senior Research Associate at the Center for Policy Research. He previously held the George Summey, Jr. Professorship of Liberal Arts at Texas A&M University (1993–2005). His academic appointments also include visiting positions at the University of Arizona and the University of California, San Diego, as well as part‑time Chair in Economics at the University of Leicester in the United Kingdom.

Professor Baltagi is internationally recognized for his contributions to econometrics, particularly in panel data methods, spatial econometrics, and applied microeconometrics. His work has been honored with some prestigious scientific awards, including the 2028 Kuwait Prize in Economics, and the 2025 Great Arab Minds Award in recognition of his lifetime contributions to econometrics and economics research.

He is the author of several influential and widely cited books, including:

  • A Companion to Theoretical Econometrics (Blackwell, 2001)

He has authored or co‑authored over 200 publications in leading economics and econometrics journals, and his work is widely cited across the profession.

Professor Baltagi serves as Associate Editor of Econometric Reviews and Econometrics and Statistics. His previous editorial leadership includes:

  • Editor of Economics Letters (2011-2021)

  • Editor, Empirical Economics (1999–2018)

  • Associate Editor, Journal of Econometrics (1999–2018)

  • Replication Editor, Journal of Applied Econometrics (2003–2018)

He is Series Editor for Contributions to Economic Analysis (Emerald Publishing) and Advanced Studies in Theoretical and Applied Econometrics (Springer).

Professor Baltagi is a Fellow of the Journal of Econometrics, Econometric Reviews and recipient of the Multa Scripsit and Plura Scripsit Awards from Econometric Theory. He is also a Fellow of Advances in Econometrics and recipient of the Distinguished Authors Award from the Journal of Applied Econometrics.

He is a founding Fellow and member of the Board of Directors of the Spatial Econometrics Association, and a founding member and fellow of the International Association for Applied Econometrics.

Professor Baltagi received his Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Pennsylvania in 1979.
